Maintenance and Wellness: What’s the Difference?

Stress Induced Back Pain
Maintenance and wellness to the body are often perceived as the same thing. However, there is a vast difference between the two and these terms should not be used interchangeably.

Today, your committed McAllen chiropractors at Hendrick Wellness Center will explain the difference between maintenance and wellness and what you can do to make your health a top priority.

Maintenance Versus Wellness

Maintenance is easier to explain and can be defined as doing simple everyday things like working out, watching what you eat, and regular chiropractic visits to keep your body in good shape. Wellness is a bit harder to describe and can generally become confused with maintenance, but is described as doing the most for your body to keep it in top shape.

Understanding Maintenance

Maintenance is different from wellness based on the fact that it’s the care that you give your body when you’re already experiencing symptoms. Take having allergies for instance and taking an allergy medication such as cetirizine to manage your allergies.

When taking this medication you’re not curing your allergies but instead maintaining the symptoms to keep them in check.

Understanding Wellness

Wellness is not the same as maintenance as it is considered caring for your body when you are not already experiencing symptoms. A prime example of wellness would be receiving an adjustment from your chiropractor before you start experiencing any type of pain.

Taking multivitamins and getting a massage are two other perfect examples of wellness. When you take a multivitamin or get a massage you are keeping your body in check by ensuring that it is taken care of and maintaining optimal health.

When it comes to chiropractic care, focusing on wellness is a wise investment not only for your body, but also for your efforts to live a better quality life. When adjustments are used to prevent back pain, you are able to trigger your body’s ability to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.
